SCHOOLS

Fine Art School Portraits are an up and coming trend I am proud to offer in addition to my family photography business. Fine Art School Portraits provide a fresh and classic update to school portraits with a boutique ordering experience. I use a natural background on the school’s campus, natural light, portrait lens and fun interaction with the students. No more cheesy backgrounds, harsh studio lights and silly props. By removing distracting elements, the focus is on the child. The result is an artistic and genuine school portrait that captures your child exactly as they are in that moment.

Parents and schools LOVE this custom boutique experience. Why?

Families can decide which image(s) they'd like to keep instead of the photographer deciding which image makes the cut.

I capture several images of each child, giving parents the opportunity to select their favorite image(s). Genuine expressions are captured during our fun interaction together.

You can say goodbye to pre order forms  that can be lost, misplaced or left at home. The order process is completely online. Parents are given a password protected gallery, where each child has his/her own folder of approximately 4-6 images to select from. Pictures may be ordered as prints, canvases or digital files.

I am happy to photograph siblings together if the schools schedule permits. If younger siblings are not in school yet, I will work with the school to find a time for parents and caregivers to bring in younger siblings.

I'm a professional photographer and a former elementary school teacher so I understand kids. And I get schools. I know that schools have a tightly woven schedule that needs to stay as intact as possible and children have important things to learn every day. I am very willing to work with each school to make sure the photo day experience is the least disruptive it can be.

How does it work?

Prior to picture day, the school will receive information to pass along to parents to help them prepare for picture day. Once the school gallery is ready, all information on how to order, deadlines, and frequently asked questions, are laid out. I also include a short video on how to order to answer any questions that may come up while ordering.

I provide all materials and gear for picture day.

School portraits may be taken in the fall or spring, whatever works best for the school. Retakes are offered for students who were ill or out on picture day. The school and I will decide on retake day together to ensure the least disruption for students.

What ages do you photograph?

I currently focus on children ages 2-5 which means preschools, TK and junior Kindergarten classes.

School Perks

Picture day is not just for the students. Although individual and class photos are taken on picture day, faculty and staff may also have their picture taken that same day as well. This is the perfect way for the school to have current photos of faculty and staff for their websites, IDs, etc.

Faculty and Staff receive special discounts on their print orders.

I donate 10% of my gross revenue back to the schools I photograph.

But what does all of this cost?

My rates are competitive. There is no cost to the school, and parents pay nothing up front. Everything is ordered online after you have seen your child's images.

How do I get this in my school?

If you are a school looking for more information or to set picture day dates, you may contact me here, or shoot me an email at sarahslaytonphoto@gmail.com.

If you are a parent hoping for me to capture your children at their school you can do two things. One reach out to me and let me know which school they go to so I can approach them. You can also tell the school, show them my website and let them know you want a different experience for your child's school pictures!
